ISO 29001:2020 supplements ISO 9001:2015 with sector requirements and guidance for product and service suppliers in petroleum, petrochemicals and natural gas. Confirm the requested standard and certification scope with the buyer.

  • Confirm the operator’s requirement. Read the operator’s current tender or supplier-category instructions. ISO 29001 is not a universal condition for every vendor list, and certification does not guarantee registration or a contract.
  • Prove Supply Chain Rigor. Demonstrate that your services meet the strict quality requirements of the petroleum and natural gas industries.

ISO 29001 is the quality management standard for the petroleum, petrochemical, and natural gas industry. It builds on ISO 9001 and adds sector-specific controls for defect prevention and supply-chain risk.

Product and service suppliers whose activities fall within the standard’s scope may use it. Whether certification is required depends on the buyer and contract; confirm the exact requirement before proceeding.

No. ISO 29001 and API Q1 are distinct documents and are not automatically interchangeable. API Q1’s tenth edition includes product providers and specified non-manufacturing activities; API Q2 addresses service supply organizations. Confirm the activity, edition and evidence your buyer requires.

ISO 29001 is outside the UAF-accredited scope of our partner body AQSR (CM-MS-7820), so we confirm the issuing body and its accreditation scope with you before the audit is booked.
