Most companies start with ISO 9001 for quality, then add the standard their sector or their contracts require. The right choice comes down to what you make or do and who you sell to. If you are new to certification, read our guide to ISO certification cost and process in Iraq.
Match the standard to your sector
Each ISO standard answers a different question a buyer or regulator asks. Use the table to find yours, then follow the link to the standard for full detail.
| Standard | Covers | Who typically needs it |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 9001 | Quality management | Every sector; the tender baseline |
| ISO 14001 | Environmental management | Construction, infrastructure, exporters |
| ISO 45001 | Occupational health & safety | Construction, oil & gas, heavy industry |
| ISO 22000 | Food safety | Food producers and exporters |
| ISO 29001 | Oil & gas quality | Petroleum supply chain and vendors |
Common bundles
Sectors tend to certify to a set, not a single standard. Construction commonly holds ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001. Oil and gas adds ISO 29001 on top. Food producers pair ISO 9001 with ISO 22000. Certifying a bundle together in one integrated audit is faster and cheaper than doing them one at a time.
